Reading About the World Through Literature
For Whom the Bell Tolls has definitely been one of those novels that changed my perspective on life. From reading this book, I have realized how important it is to appreciate life in the moment and put value into it, whether it is seventy days or seventy years long. This book also has helped me realize that even though some situations are bad, good things can come out of it. Roberto knows that he will most likely die with the mission he has been assigned in the war, but he finds love in his last few days and lives his life in those few days he has with her.

To Kill a Mockingbird has also been a novel to change my view on the world. It has made me understand that doing the right thing and doing what is popular is not always the same thing. Something else it has really helped me learn is there is good in everyone and you have to "walk in their shoes" to truly understand them. Atticus teaches his children Scout and Jem that defending a black person in court is the right thing to do, although everyone else in Maycomb despises him for it. Atticus also gives Scout a lesson about dealing with people by putting yourself in their perspective to understand where they are coming from.
