Are you worried about college applications? For most of us high schoolers, they are closer than you think, and planning for your future sooner than later is better. So, I have a few tips on how to put yourself in the IDEAL position for college applications.
Challenge yourself with the hardest classes you can take. Colleges want to see that you can handle rigorous courses such as AP classes since college classes are even more challenging. (While good grades are crucial to have to put yourself in a good position for college, it isn’t just about a good GPA anymore. College admissions get more and more competitive each year, so it is imperative to become more well rounded and be involved in other activities as well.)
Be involved in clubs within your school. It is super important to show colleges that you are capable of balancing school with extracurricular activities. Even better, apply for leadership positions in those clubs to show colleges that you have leadership and good communication skills.
Study for important standardized tests like the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and others. This is a one-day test but how you score on it can affect what colleges look at you, so it is very important to prepare as much as possible to do your very best!
Join (or keep doing) a sport. Colleges are aware of the huge time commitment of a sport and if they see that you can handle hard classes WHILE playing a sport, it will earn you major brownie points.

Make your own club within the school, become involved in an outside organization, or do something outside of the normal school activities. Colleges want to see that you can do things on your own accord and be your own person.
Try to do any summer camps or outside educational opportunities that interest you. Many colleges offer summer camps for high school students, and this can help you in a variety of ways. First, you might develop a love for the college you attend the camp at and decide that you want to go to that college. Second, you might experience something life-changing at this camp and may have something to discuss in your college application essays. Either way, if you take advantage of outside educational opportunities, you will really stand out to colleges.
Getting into a good college doesn’t necessarily mean that you must follow all these tips, but in a world where college admissions gets more and more competitive each and every year, doing as much as you can to make yourself stand out is a great idea. My main goal here is to help you readers get the best opportunities possible for your career after high school. So, what do you readers think? Especially those of you who have been through the college application process, what tips would you give for those of us who are applying for colleges?
